Windy West Bay and Takeaway! - Dorset #2

Hello friends! Welcome to the second post of my Dorset mini-series! Get ready for a fortnight of pictures and posts in which I will attempt to do my summer holiday justice. Here's hoping that the holiday will be good, I'll remember to post every day, and that the cottage we're staying at has wifi (fingers crossed). Thank you for deciding to join me on this little adventure - I can't tell you how much this means to me!

Early this morning, I yawned, drew back the curtains and light flooded into my room as I was met with THIS view.

I don't really think I need to say anymore than that, do you?

The sun was shining, there wasn't a cloud in sight and the world almost seemed to be inviting us outside. I was SO ready for this holiday.

After a challenging breakfast (a fun fact about me: I hate breakfast, and will do whatever I can to avoid it. I had one croissant, which almost defeated me), my brother and I proceeded to head up to Beaminster town centre to visit the local Co-operative and pick up some vital supplies - you know, soap, rice cakes, that sort of thing. Beaminster is the little village in which we're staying, and it's a sweet, sleepy place with bags of charm and character. It's the sort of town that would be described as 'quaint' in an old-fashioned murder mystery novel set in the countryside.

After sufficient sustenance had been purchased, we decided (after a LOT of deliberation and arguing) to visit West Bay for the day, a popular tourist beachside town known for its quirky shops and pretty coastal views, and now murder, apparently, as it's the setting of TV series 'Broadchurch' (which I have never watched but have heard is very good).

I spent the morning at West Bay Beach with sand in between my toes, occasionally running up to the sea gleefully only to be drenched knee-high in water before lying back in the sand to dry off. I can honestly say that I felt more content this morning than I have in a long time. There's something about the sea that I find so calming and yet fascinating at the same time, and to watch the tide roll in again and again was more than a suitable way to spend the first half of the day.

However, our bellies rumbled and the tide came in, signalling that it was lunchtime; so we went to fetch some good ol' fish 'n' chips from our favourite kiosk at West Bay Harbour (No. 8 Traditional Fish And Chips, in case you were wondering). We ate the fish 'n' chips out of paper bags sitting on a bench and it was wonderful.

The next order of the day turned out to be promoting greyhound adoption, funnily enough. It turns out that our family is in fact NOT biased when appreciating Dusty's adorableness and, as we walked Dusty around the harbour after lunch, many strangers approached her and seemed to love her. We even had a couple who were thinking of adopting a greyhound quiz us on what life with Dusty was like. Of course, we told them the truth: that she makes our lives complete and she's a dream to have around.

All this greyhound promotion was beginning to tire us all out, especially Dusty, who was exhausted from having to parade around all day looking cute, so we bid West Bay goodbye and spent the late afternoon at the cottage, lounging and reading. I took the opportunity to start this blog post (are you proud of my organisational skills?).

The evening was topped off with a Chinese takeaway and a film - Now You See Me - which was brilliant. I'm still trying to get my head round the ending.

Hopefully you enjoyed my little account of Day Two in Dorset! I loved our first full day here and cannot wait to revisit all of my favourite places over the coming fortnight.

Until tomorrow,

Olivia x

Check back tomorrow for Dorset #3!
