By The Seaside - Dorset #8

Hello friends! Welcome to the eighth post of my Dorset mini-series! Get ready for a fortnight of pictures and posts in which I will attempt to do my summer holiday justice. Here's hoping that the holiday will be good, I'll remember to post every day, and that the cottage we're staying at has wifi (fingers crossed). Thank you for deciding to join me on this little adventure - I can't tell you how much this means to me!

Okay, so today I mentioned that I would be doing something quite different to other holiday activities this week, and I kept you all in suspense about what I would be doing. Well, fret not, blogging friends! (Were you fretting? Probably not, as not many people read this blog.) Now I shall divulge to you the day's activities.

Today we travelled down to the coast to visit some schoolfriends of my father's and their families. One of the families owns a house right by the sea and so every summer they and a few other families holiday there together. This year we happened to be in the same place at the same time, so were invited to spend the day with these families.

We drove down at about 12:30pm, and my brother and I got acquainted with the various other kids our age at the holiday cottage. We played badminton and I witnessed a questionable game of croquet before a late lunch of salad, seafood, quiche, fresh bread and a selection of cheeses. It was lovely.

The rest of the afternoon was spent either playing volleyball and netball with the other kids, or talking to some of the adults, or walking down to the beach (which was, quite literally, a stone's throw away from the house) and dipping my toes in the sea.

This was how close we were to the sea from the house!

One of the loveliest things about the day was the real sense of community about the holiday cottage. Because there were so many people there, there was always someone to talk to, and we were made to feel welcome, although my brother and I were essentially the only kids who didn't know anyone else there. It was really relaxing and nice to share a cake that someone had spontaneously made the previous day, or witness the other kids swim in the sea, or begin a game of cricket with the dads.

Dusty had a ball, too. She loved all of the attention and affection she got from various visitors to the house, and spent the majority of the afternoon asleep on the porch in the sunshine, which must have been absolute bliss for her.

I also really enjoyed getting to know my dad's oldest friends better - apparently I'd met them before, but I was very young at the time, so I barely remembered them. They were all lovely to me and I thoroughly enjoyed their company.

After leaving the cottage at early evening time, despite being invited to stay on, we went back to The Greyhound pub for dinner, and I opted for classic comfort food of macaroni cheese and chips (so many carbs - I loved it!) and then caramel ice cream. You can really tell that healthy eating is high on my list of priorities...

Anyway, that just about wraps up my post for the day! A bit of a short one in afraid, it I pretty much spent the whole afternoon at the holiday cottage, so there wasn't too much to write about.

See y'all tomorrow for the next Dorset day!
